Black Movie for Kids

As the world of images becomes ever more globalized children, like adults, are exposed to increasingly drastic uniformity. Yet it is when we are children that our minds are most naturally open and our tastes form. Convinced of this, the Black Movie festival offers young spectators food for their still lively appetites for discovery: films from all over the world, recent or old, funny or sad or poetic or all these at once, created especially for children or else simply within their reach.

This edition of Black Movie for Children focuses on both creativity and quality, and spotlights Eastern European and Latin America countries. Such is the quality of these short films that enjoyment certainly won't be restricted to kids.

As far as screenings with activities are concerned, note the offbeat performance (MovieThon) of the Car de Thon musicians in the Transatlantic program. At the same time and encouraged by their success in previous editions, several neighborhood leisure centers (maisons de quartier and centres de loisirs) will once again present the World Tour 2010 program’s short films, accompanying them with imaginative DIY workshops, exciting world dishes and pastries, and other very pleasant surprises…

As part of its efforts to raise awareness among young spectators, the festival is organizing sessions for primary and secondary school children. And tiny tots haven’t been left out: in partnership with the City of Geneva’s office for “children’s cultural and artistic awakening” (Eveil culturel et artistique des enfants), Black Movie for Children goes on tour through the city’s kindergartens and crèches.

And finally, Altares mexicanos – modeled on the altars that are an integral part of Mexican culture and created by young Geneva schoolchildren for the festival – will be on display at the Maison des Arts du Grütli.
